The Spanish National Tugowners Association – ANARE – was constituted in July 1977 to represent and defend its members and negotiate on their behalf in matters of their common interest, and has been active in endeavouring to fulfil these objectives ever since.
From its original nucleus of members it has grown until now it includes all 33 Spanish tugowning firms whose field of business is the provision of harbour, river and deep-sea towage services, salvage, assistance, etc., with a total fleet of 183 tugs nationwide, apart from those operated abroad.
Throughout the years ANARE has maintained a permanent dialogue with all those concerned with its activities at all levels: government departments, companies and employers’ associations, political and financial bodies, trade unions, etc., with the aim of providing effective solutions for its members. Its collaboration has also been important in achieving improvement and modernisation of the Spanish tug fleet, in increasing operational effectiveness and also in the establishment of a marine rescue service in Spain.
